Be the gold in a forest of green
Why do I need a professional website content writer?
A decent, professional website content writer can be worth their weight in gold – by helping you to find the right words to communicate your message effectively to your customers and partners.
Your website content needs to be accurate, professional, engaging, and fully optimised for the major search engines if you want it to convert visitors into actual paying customers. This also applies if you’re attempting to persuade funding bodies or potential partners to invest in your business or idea.
But I don't have a website - I prefer old-school advertising
You may have heard people say that a business without a website doesn’t really exist.
There is a lot of truth in this statement.
The days of searching the Yellow Pages phone book are long over, and today the vast majority of us turn to the major search engines whenever we need to find out where we can acquire products and services.
This applies as much to small local businesses as it does to multinational corporations.
Surely this doesn't apply to me though?
Unless you have a very small business whose customer base is confined to a very restricted physical location (for example, a village grocery store), then you may well find it extremely difficult to survive for long without an online presence.
And even a village grocery store should have a website – to inform villagers about opening hours, new product lines, special offers, and other news, at the very least.
Setting up a website for your business doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive, and it will pay for itself multiple times over.
First encounters of the virtual kind
Your website should operate as your virtual shop window, and just as much care and thought should be devoted to its design and content as would be expected for an actual shop window display.
After all, for the majority of potential new customers, reading about your business online will be their first encounter with it.
Like it or not, most people will make a decision about whether or not to do business with you based on their first impression of your written content.
Why shouldn’t I just hire a copywriter from Fiverr (or other, similar “cheap as chips” services)?
It can be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff out there in the virtual wild west marketplace.
On Fiverr, and other such sites where anyone can offer any type of virtual service, it seems that everybody and his cat is selling some form of web copywriting service at bargain basement prices.
Here comes the word of caution. You have to ask why they are charging so little if they are highly skilled. Often, the answer will be that they are either very inexperienced novices, or they just aren’t very good. And if you’re really unlucky, you could end up with a “copy-wronger”, rather than a “copy-righter”.
Of course, you can also find more competent and established copywriters offering their services on these sites.
However, these experienced professionals will be adept at enticing you with the initial promise of low fees, before slapping on charges for compulsory additional extras.
And before you know it, you will be paying the going rate for decent copy anyway!
